The Mark I have is also known as MK1. This kukri was modeled after one made by East India Company in Kolkata in 1914 AD. This was due to war breaking out and more knives were needed than could be produced in Nepal. The Army was entering World War 1 and needed blades. This was the first major engagement for the Gorkhas Army under the British Army Command. This is a style of blade that the enemy would have faced in World War I. The Notch is known as Kaudi (sometimes called Cho). Notice the Kaudi is modeled after the Crown of England. The Sheath is double-looped. This blade is rich in history and every collector should have a Mark 1 in their collection. The handle is larger than the original size for our larger hands today. While it is a reproduction, it is fully functional and sharp. Included in addition are the traditional 2 small knives and these are tempered for real use (One knife and one honing steel). The Scabbard tip is the Conch Shell design. The Karda and Chak Mak were made in the same technique that was time-proven in the ground war. This is a good knife for general-purpose camp use and is easily used for self-defense.
