This 13″ American Eagle Chitlange Khukuri | Custom Survival Gurkha Kukri is one of the new designs from the Ex Gurkha Khukuri House. It has a 13-inch unpolished blade made from highly graded 5160 carbon steel with a very sharp edge. The handle of this khukuri (also called kukri or khukri by most people outside Nepal) is 6.5 inches in length and is made from rosewood. It is made by strongly riveting two rosewood pieces each on each side of the metal of the blade. You can clearly see the blade running throughout the entire handle of the khukuri. Also, the handle is shaped like a sitting bald eagle when you turn the handle up-side. The scabbard is made from pinewood wrapped in water buffalo leather. The craftsmanship on this handmade khukuri is pretty amazing along with the durability of the blade.

The Gurkha Khukuri is possibly the most recognizable and famous fighting knife ever developed which can be used in daily households as much as it is used in military warfare. Khukuris are indigenous to the mountainous region of the then Kingdom of Nepal, the home of the Gurkha soldiers who were “absorbed” into the British sphere of influence with the Treaty of Sagauli in 1816. These ferocious fighters were infamous for their valor and for using the kukri which was an amazing “Tool of Death”. It is a forward-leaning leaf-shaped blade, which provides for a leveraged striking power. Introduced long before the British arrived in the early 19th century, the khukuri became standard equipment for Gurkha Regiments serving in the British Army.

Ironically the earliest khukuris were large in size, whereas these days many khukuris come in a compact size with many extra features and with chopping power. This beautiful 13″ American Eagle Chitlange Khukuri derives its name from the Bald Eagle which is the national symbol of the United States. Even though the khukuri is one of custom design, it also preserves the cultural values and craftsmanship of the original khukuri blades. The blade has proper weight and balance that provides the user with ease & comfort while using it.

The notch (kauri or kaudi) in the blade near the hilt of the kukri serves as a conduit for the blood on the blade to drip out, thus preventing it from soiling the hilt, as well as a device for catching and neutralizing an enemy blade.

It has two pockets on the back of the scabbard which hold a blunt steel called “chakmak” for sharpening the blade or for creating sparks by striking it to a flint and a little knife known as “karda” used for skinning small animals such as rabbits. The scabbard has single flat- frogs which are leather loops used to attach the scabbard to a belt.

This 13″ American Eagle Chitlange Khukuri | Custom Survival Gurkha Kukri can be used to do any types of tasks from skinning, cutting meat & clearing bushes to hacking wood & chopping firewood & bones. It is a tactical survival knife that can be used during hunting, camping, hiking, or any other outdoor adventure. It is also a famous combat knife that can be your last line of defense in the wild.
