This extremely sharp blade carries great value to the retiring Gurkha soldiers and is primarily crafted for decorative and souvenir purpose but can also be used like the other practical khukuris for chopping & cutting.
This 13″ Royal Kothimora Chitlange Khukuri | Genuine Handmade Souvenir Kukri is an authentic Kothimora Khukuri (also called Kukri or Khukri by many people outside Nepal) by Ex Gurkha Khukuri House. The Kothimora Khukuri is a very unique khukuri that has a silver-mounted scabbard that is specially crafted for the retiring Gurkha soldiers of the British Army. During retirement, the officer receives the khukuri from his respective regiments as a memento for his service to the British Army. This type of khukuri carries great value to the Gurkha soldiers and is primarily crafted for decorative and souvenir purposes even though it is as good as the other practical khukuris used to perform various tasks.
The 13″ Royal Kothimora Chitlange Khukuri has a 13-inch blade made from highly graded 5160 carbon steel along with a 5-inch handle made from water buffalo horn. The blade has a super sharp edge with a balanced oil-quenching temper to strengthen the blade. The scabbard is made from pinewood and wrapped in a fine top-quality velvet fabric. Unlike other scabbards, this is a very unique scabbard that exclusively features hand-etched fine art on pure sterling silver filigree. This requires a lot of skill and time to make and is a very rare piece of craftsmanship.
There is a notch (kaura or kaudi) in the blade near the hilt of most khukuri that serves as a conduit for the blood to drip out from the blade, thus preventing it from soiling the hilt, as well as a place for catching and neutralizing an enemy blade.
The Khukuri comes with two small additional knives called the Karda and the Chakmak. The Karda is used as an auxiliary knife to perform tasks like skinning and opening letter and cans and the Chakmak is used for sharpening the blade or to create a spark by striking it to a flint.
